Marks and Spencer school uniforms – one year on

This is a sponsored post!

With the arrival of the warm weather and thoughts of holidays close to mind it feels like a good time to update my first post on the Marks and Spencer school uniforms. The big lady has worn nothing other than the uniforms from Marks and Spencer so I technically have nothing to compare it to currently but I have myself worn my fair share of uniforms Continue reading

Discovering Cork – Fitzgerald’s Park

fitzgeralds-park-featured-image

Ages ago now I had a post on my Facebook page where lots of other Mum’s suggested places to hit for with kids around Cork. Suggestions came for near and far, from model railways to beaches, parks to playgrounds. My aim this summer is to discover them all. When the big lady started school I think I had underestimated the commitment involved in a child going to primary school and really felt I hadn’t made the best of our free time last summer. Granted I was akin to a sweaty whale Continue reading

What do you see when you look in the mirror?

embrace

I watched a film recently that made me cry. Me! Cry! Rarely, rarely happens I can assure you but something about it really resonated with me. It’s a documentary called Embrace by Taryn Brummfit which explores the relationship women have with their bodies and encourages us to be more body positive. Not the first of its kind but I think its the way she gets all the different women to open up and talk about their journeys is what really struck a chord with me. It showed how magazine’s photoshop models so that not even the models recognise themselves and then these are the images being fed to us, that we are supposed to aspire to? Continue reading

The one thing about this blog that continues on a daily basis to provide me with such a feeling of content is the people I connect with. They are all facets of myself, Mums to be, Mums on maternity leave, Mums back at work and Mums working for themselves. So I can identify with them all and everyone of them, of you, that makes contact with me makes me smile. Continue reading

Nappies nappies everywhere!

pampers baby-dry nappy the two darlings parenting blogger mummy blogger ireland cork

I would almost consider myself a nappy aficionado at this stage, three kids in and so far I’ve been changing nappies for four and a half years solid, and that is obviously set to continue for another couple of years now that Lucy has landed! I’ve tried every size, shape and brand of nappy over the years and one thing is always for sure, when gravity takes hold these nappies are bulky in the middle. So when Pampers approached me and appealed the scientist within me I  took on the challenge of testing this nappy to see just how much water it could hold (thankfully they didn’t ask me to test it with the real deal!).  Continue reading

5 breastfeeding tips from a mother that finally succeeded

breastfeeding advice

I had originally written this post in advance of the latest arrival but then I felt i had to hold off publishing it until I tried and tested my own advice! We’re five weeks into the journey this time round, and touch wood, all is going well, I’m out the far side of soreness, we’re settling into a lovely rhythm together, and most importantly the small lady is piling on the pounds, literally!! I think if you can survive the first couple of weeks you’re on the road to success. I’ve written before about my hit and misses with breastfeeding in the past, not through lack of wanting to do it did things not work out but for various reasons which have led me through a good journey of discovery! BUUUT, this is my time to shine. I really, really want to make a proper go of it this time round so I put together this list of breastfeeding tips I’ve learned to date, for other Mums that may want to try it out or that tried and failed but want to try again. 5 surprising hospital bag essentials after a baby

hospital bag essentials hospital bag baby hospital bag list hospital bag ireland the two darlings parenting blog mummy blogger ireland cork

Ok so I know that these posts are done to death and I’m not going to go into a full long list of what I put in my hospital bag because there are literally a million checklists online for that. What I want to put together is a list of the surprising products that I found really useful in hospital third time round. Any Mum to be will know that she needs babygros, big knickers and those nappy like pads (the glamour!) but there are a few little extra things you can throw into your bag that make life in the hospital that little bit easier.  Continue reading

Bosca Baby – a perfect gift for new mothers

bosca baby gift for new mother gift for new baby baby box the two darlings parenting blog ireland mummy blogger

I know I may be a Mammy now three times over but with each new baby there are some basics and essentials you either can’t avoid buying, things that you run out of or things that simply need replacing due to the constant washing or staining a newborn creates. There’s nothing like a gift for a new baby to make you go weak at the knees with the cuteness and the sheer teeny size of all the items! And so when this Bosca Baby, the most beautifully packaged box filled with newborn essentials, arrived in our household while I was in the hospital, I was thrilled.  Continue reading

The ultimate breastfeeding pillow

I’ve used breastfeeding pillows before, mostly they serve one purpose, to make life easier when you’re breastfeeding a baby. Around our house since the smallest lady arrived you will often hear someone or other looking for ‘the hen’. The hen has become one of those unbelievably useful items that you don’t realise you need until you have it and then you wonder how you lived without it.  Continue reading

Sulphate free hair products

I’ve mentioned before my now mild obsession with sulphates when it comes to the heads in this household. Even a tiny bit of research will alert you to how awful this stuff is and it’s in everything, although that said it’s not pure evil in every product on your bathroom shelf. But when it comes to hair and heads I really don’t feel there is a place for sulphates. We’ve completely switched now, the girls use all products from Elave which I’ve mentioned before Continue reading
