I have always found pregnancy particularly tough on my nails. Over the past few years my nails have been weak and split regularly. I mean so weak that they bend even when I’d be doing up fiddly buttons on the girls dresses, which even thinking about makes me cringe, honestly I think there is no worse a sensation. I’ll be honest, I probably haven’t minded them as much as I should, I don’t take supplements to strengthen them and they are painted most days of the week.
So when the chance came to visit the Essence Spa at the Clarion Hotel in Cork I jumped at the chance to firstly, get a rare bit of time to myself without a flurry of why’s, and secondly to give my hands some well needed tlc. I decided to go for the mini manicure which included a file and shape, a lovely warm hand soak, a mini massage, cuticle work and a polish of my choice from a huge selection of regular OPI products, and by regular I mean not gel or shellac etc. Afterwards I sat back and let me nails dry and spent some time reading a magazine, drinking water and just being calm! I went for a quick dip in the pool afterwards which was lovely, I didn’t really realise how stiff pregnancy has made me so it was great to stretch the muscles. The spa itself is small but nice and calm, actually it’s like stepping into a different world really as the gym is next to it and full of hard working sweaty people so the spa is a far cry from that! If I could have only one small gripe it was that the spa shares a changing room with the gym so it was busy and more like a public swimming pool changing room rather than a luxury spa changing room. Definitely the Essence Spa is somewhere to pop into in the heart of Cork city for a relaxing treatment. Aideen, the Spa Manager that did my nails was an absolute pleasure to sit with and did a fantastic job. My nails lasted from Tuesday night until Saturday with no chipping which is brilliant considering it was a regular polish and not a gel treatment.
The mini manicure I got costs €30, my treatment was provided free of charge in return for this (honest!) review. For a full list of treatments and the cost please click here.
