I am a pure sucker for Pinterest, I was obsessed with it prior to our wedding, picking up so many little tips and tricks to add a flavour of us as a couple in our own way. Surprisingly, when it came to our home I was a little less obsessed, but I still find it a fantastic place to pick up the most random ideas from storage to art it’s all there. So when Fotostore approached me to work with them, having received the email surrounded by bare white walls, I jumped at the opportunity to do something a bit different to try and make this house a home. With the arrival of the warm weather and thoughts of holidays close to mind it feels like a good time to update my first post on the Marks and Spencer school uniforms. The big lady has worn nothing other than the uniforms from Marks and Spencer so I technically have nothing to compare it to currently but I have myself worn my fair share of uniforms Continue reading

Holiday mode with Marks & Spencer

M&S summer holiday clothes for kids the two darlings parenting blog M&S summer 2017

Last summer I look back and think we didn’t make the best of the free days we had before the advent of big school. I suppose it’s fair to say that being pregnant probably didn’t help my energy levels but this year, with energy levels somewhat returned, I am making a commitment to myself and the ladies that we are going to explore more. The mornings are going to be filled with packing picnics, loading up the slow cooker with dinner and piling the kitchen sink necessary accoutrements that come with kids and adventures into the car. But before we hit off we had to get prepared, the weather was unseasonably mild this Easter and the big lady in particular was left peering into her wardrobe in search of a summer dress that would fit her!

What do you see when you look in the mirror?

embrace

I watched a film recently that made me cry. Me! Cry! Rarely, rarely happens I can assure you but something about it really resonated with me. It’s a documentary called Embrace by Taryn Brummfit which explores the relationship women have with their bodies and encourages us to be more body positive. Not the first of its kind but I think its the way she gets all the different women to open up and talk about their journeys is what really struck a chord with me. It showed how magazine’s photoshop models so that not even the models recognise themselves and then these are the images being fed to us, that we are supposed to aspire to? Continue reading

Baba Box – quirky gifts for Mums and babies alike

the-two-darlings-11

I find with Instagram there are some accounts that you constantly go back to check on because their feed is not just aesthetically pleasing but the content is fantastic too. This I find with Sarah’s Baba Box account and when she kindly offered to send me the February box for a look see I was delighted. Baba Box is a brand that provides both a subscription service and a one off gifting option. The selection of products contained in the boxes Continue reading

Shimmer and Shine!

the-two-darlings-10

I am lucky enough to be sent lots of wonderful products to try and test out but the really beauty in blogging is when the girls get toys to review. I would go so far as to say that since the Shimmer and Shine dolls arrived at the door there hasn’t been a day where the girls haven’t danced to the catchy tune the dolls sing! I have to admit it has a habit of getting stuck in my head too….! Both ladies really loved these dolls, one is almost 3 and the other almost 5 so the dolls were perfectly suitable for both age groups. The small lady liked the singing and the phrases the dolls say (of which there are plenty so it doesn’t get repetitive) and the older lady is at a stage where she is more likely to actually play and create scenarios with dolls.  Continue reading

So I can identify with them all and everyone of them, of you, that makes contact with me makes me smile. Continue reading

To the Mum who…

To the Mum…

Who notices her concealer isn’t rubbed in AFTER the school run has been done…
Who doesn’t quite understand why the children love Mister Tumble so much…
Who always crawls into bed last after the day despairing at the mess that remains despite all the cleaning done…
Who realises in the car at the swimming pool that only one eye has had a lashing of liquid eye liner…
Whose heart drops a little when the children ask her when is she going back to work… Continue reading

Dining with a difference at Cork International Hotel

cork international hotel ireland sunday lunch the two darlings eating with toddlers cork sunday lunch cork

One of the things we do enjoy as a family is eating out, one day in the weekend we go on an adventure and love to find somewhere new along the way to eat in. It can be at times a little stressful if I’m not having a particularly zen day but the girls enjoy it and we enjoy food so it’s worth a few frantic jumps across a table to catch a falling glass of milk.  Continue reading

Inspiring dolls for girls

dolls for girls

My ladies love playing with dolls, there is absolutely no doubt about that. And while I have no major problem with Barbie, part from the fact that her streamlined waist taunts me as I watch the girls with a cup of tea and a biscuit in hand, I would prefer they had dolls with a more realistic outlook in life. We all know that if Barbie were real she wouldn’t be able to support her own head and given the length of some of the dresses she comes with I do wonder as to her method of supporting herself financially too if you get my drift wink wink!  Continue reading
