I had the pleasure of attending my friend’s hen party recently in Lyrath Estate Hotel just outside Kilkenny. We went for Afternoon Tea as part of our package and it was a really lovely way to spend an afternoon with friends that I had not caught up with in a while. We were really impressed with the spread that was laid on for us and it is safe to say we were all pretty full afterwards. Starting from the bottom there was a lovely selection of sandwiches including an open egg mayonnaise sandwich and smoked salmon and cream cheese on brown bread.
On the next layer we had a choice of scones with clotted cream and jam, banana bread and fruit cake. This selection of Afternoon Tea treats was to be shared between three people – so plenty there for all of us and one of each item so no fighting! And if our belly’s weren’t full enough at that stage we were treated to four individual deserts each – chocolate cake, panna cotta, cheesecake and the most divine lemon meringue pie. The view from our table was truly spectacular and relaxing.
My only small complaint was that the area where the afternoon tea was served wasn’t well serviced by a staff member so we either had to wait a while to order more tea’s and coffee’s or else had to walk to the bar to order drinks, which isn’t miles away but still.
The view from the area where we had Afternoon Tea was truely fabulous – relaxing and soothing, exactly what us Hen’s needed before a big night out!
Afternoon tea is really great value at €17.50 per person. You can make it an extra special afternoon treat by upgrading to either the Champagne (€32.00 pp) or the Prosecco (€27.00 pp) options or, do like we did, and order a bottle of Prosecco from the bar for €42.00 and between four of us we got a good 2 glasses each out of it.
