You know sometimes you’re struck by just how clever a product is. And if you’re a mother who loves and encourages baking with toddlers but hates mess I think I may have the answer for you! I met the lovely and enthusiastic Maria at an Afternoon Tea event in Cork over the weekend. She had travelled from Kerry to be with us and had on display her lovely selection of Bake it Easy products. I had come across Bake it Easy via a Twitter chat and when I met her yesterday I was struck by how well the products is put together and just how tasty it is!
So I brought home a jar and as soon as my three year old spotted it I just about held her off making them until lunchtime today. Bake it Easy is a (beautifully packaged) jar that contains all the ingredients you need to create one of four different types of cookies. All you need to add is some melted butter, one egg, an eager three year old and a mother who can stand back and simply observe. It is as easy as that honestly. I love baking but the mess it creates on top of the mess that is constantly created around here is just one less mess I care to clean up after. There is NO mess with this because there is no faffing around weighing out ingredients, the hard part is done for you. Plus the ingredients used are simply top quality – we tried the Cranberry and Belgian White Chocolate cookies, and the white chocolate is so creamy.
What I really liked about these is that the toddler could really manage most steps without my constantly hovering over her. She mixed it up and she placed the mixture on the trays so the sense of ownership she got from creating something almost entirely by herself brought huge smiles.
Twelve minutes in the over or the time it take to easy ALL your sandwich and soup and your cookies are ready – cooled but still warm, just perfect.
I also think this product is a winner for people like me – I like in the sticks miles from the nearest shop so I can’t just pop out for biscuits when people call for playdates etc. I also have no will power so if the cookies were sitting there in their packet chances are they’d be gone by the time a visitor landed on the doorstep anyway. But by having such a handy packet in the press you could nearly prepare these cookies once an unexpected guest landed and by the time the tea was ready you’d have the biscuits ready (and no mess!).
Brilliant product, handmade in Co. Kerry by Maria. You can buy the cookies online in orders of 4 or more or you can find out if it’s stocked in your local Supervalu here if you’re down the south of the country. They retail at €4.99 each and for that we got 15 standard biscuit sized cookies from our mix.
Surprisingly, I think you’ve convinced me! I read the title and thought unless it involves handcuffs to stop little floury hands going wild it would never work. Might actually give it a go!
