I love a good DIY of course and what better time than to let your creative juices run wild than the festive season with some DIY Christmas decorations! Truth be told some of these are hanging around from last year, I haven’t had a chance to do anything much more exciting or adventurous this year. Firstly, apologies for the shoddy pictures, the light is so bad during the winter than it makes it difficult to take good pictures of things. I got these baubles last year in Dunnes for the grand total of €3, I don’t think that’s a new tip that I’m imparting but after Christmas is the best time to stock up on your festive decor when its reduced in the sales. Anyway, onto the DIY ideas. The two felt decorations I did last year and I love the little bows especially on the tree. I’ve tried to stick with just gold decorations on the tree (along with all the DIY Christmas decorations that the two ladies have created of course!). So the red bows add a nice pop of colour.
I can hardly call this one a DIY given I just placed some baubles into a vase but it actually did work out quite nicely so it’s worth throwing it in.
After filling a couple of vases with baubles around the house I still had loads left over and being the weirdo that I am I have piles of ribbon just hanging around so I spotted this on Pinterest and did it to keep me relaxed while watching homeland!
And then finally I made this Christmas wreath last year. So easy, armed with my glue gun I got a plain styrofoam wreath from the local two euro shop and wrapped the tinsel around it and glued on the baubles. This is probably one of my favourite DIY’s around the house so far.
So there you are, I haven’t quite filled the house with DIY Christmas decor just yet, slowly but surely I’ll work up to including more around the house each year. Here are some more of ideas I plan on doing in the future. I also made these 3d paper snowflakes which you can read all about here!
I am glad I am not the only one who uses left over Baubles to make decorations with and hand them from places x
Ooh! I love a good DIY, this is fantastic. I’ve also made a mini doll out of old socks. It’s great to be able to recycle stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Totally agree, I love recycling items around the house! The mini doll sounds gorgeous!
Ha! I also put baubles in vases and use them to decorate the Christmas table :). I’m hoping to make the most of the sales as well and buy all white decorations for next year. Hubby wouldn’t be happy if I would have paid full price to replace what he thinks are perfectly fine two years old Christmas accessories x
White decorations would be lovely, there’s something elegant about a theme of colours, although when I was young I wanted everything to be colourful!
I’ve got tonnes of spare baubles and I want to make a wreath with them. The only problem is finding a base that’s suitable. I always do the vase thing too – we use one as our table decoration
Nice idea to make a table top decoration, you could probably find a good base in an art and hobby shop or online.
great ideas and things the children can do too. My house is quite festive and I made a rag wreath this year.
Oh I love those rag wreaths! I may add that to my list for next year!
I love home made decs. We have quite a few and they look amazing. I love this Christmas tree decoration its lovely. I may have a go at making this.
It’s really easy to make too and you could use other beads instead of pearls to mix things up!
Those decorations are really creative! I personally love the baubles in the vase! Very clever!
Totally agree that after Christmas is the best time to buy. I’ve certainly snapped up some beauties then.
I love the felt tree in your tree. Such a lovely way to make your own, simple decorations. The window decor is beautiful. I love how the baubles dangle from the top of the window x
Love the wreath – fab!
