I’ve used breastfeeding pillows before, mostly they serve one purpose, to make life easier when you’re breastfeeding a baby. Around our house since the smallest lady arrived you will often hear someone or other looking for ‘the hen’. The hen has become one of those unbelievably useful items that you don’t realise you need until you have it and then you wonder how you lived without it.
I was sent this pillow from the lovely people behind Irish based website fluffyfields.ie with whom I connected on Instagram. These pillows are handmade in Poland under the La Millou brand and the minky material on the outside is so lovely and soft. It can be put in the washing machine whenever it gets dirty, the whole hen goes in, it doesn’t have an outer layer that can be removed like some pillows. And they are really reasonably priced at €34.50 each and they come in a huge range of colours, I went neutral, just in case!
Anyway, while it functions obviously perfectly as a breastfeeding pillow for both the cradle and the rugby hold it has MANY more uses. Although it doesn’t wrap around the front of your body like other pillows but then my belly is still at the inflated stage so she rests more on that than any pillow just yet!
When the girls are holding the smallest lady I pop the hen under the girls arms to give them support so that they hold the poor baby properly.
If I’m feeding in bed and sitting up I find it a great support for my neck, I found it especially so when I was in the hospital on those excruciatingly uncomfortable hospital beds. Generally I don’t allow much screentime around here but needs must when you’ve just had a baby so The Hen also serves as a very handy prop for my tablet, ha ha don’t judge me!
The new arrival is still very much in the sleepy newborn stage when I write this but she’s beginning to open her eyes so from time to time I prop her up in the hen so she can look at something other than the ceiling. I see this will be a position that will get more and more use over the coming months. And it also serves as the most gorgeous pillow afterwards, no sooner had the pillow landed in the door, the two year old intercepted the post and looked rightly comfortable cuddled up to the pillow looking at a book.
I’m so pleased with The Hen, it’s so handy now and anything that can make life that little bit more comfortable and easy is a winner in my eyes.
I was sent this pillow for the purposes of this review, and I sure am glad I was!
Stop! That’s adorable, love a good multiuse pillow like that. Fab that it’s Irish too!
